The Chakshik 1881 Cavalry Sword
The Chakshik (1881 Cavalry Sword), meaning “Blade of Heaven,” is a masterpiece of craftsmanship from the Caucasus region. It embodies the valiant spirit of cavalry and was a hallmark of cavalry equipment in Tsarist Russia and the Soviet Union.
Its blade is slightly curved, single-edged, with the edge extending to a sharp angle at the tip. It can be used for both slashing and thrusting. Its weight reduction facilitates slashing while maintaining sharpness and strength. It possesses great cutting power and is effective against light armor and designs without handguards. It enhances flexibility, allowing for quick changes in grip and rapid drawing and sheathing. When worn with the blade facing upwards, it is immediately in an attacking stance upon drawing (or a reverse grip for a slashing attack), allowing for extremely fast strikes. The hilt is hook-shaped with a grooved structure, serving two purposes: 1. as an aid in drawing the knife, allowing for a better grip and increased attack range and versatility; 2. the concave bottom of the pommel can be used as a rifle support (highly practical). Its eagle-head design, swiftness, precision, and lethality, along with the user’s soaring, eagle-like attack posture, have earned it the nickname “Eagle’s Claws.”
